Planned Giving
Through the use of charitable trusts
planned gifts can save a donor money in taxes owed, produce an income for
life for the donor, as well as make a generous contribution to the donor's
favorite charity(s). Planned gifts are often made involving appreciated
property, art and collectibles, gift annuities and individual retirement
plans, and life insurance policies. Besides giving cash, perhaps the most
popular method of giving back to the community today is through the use of
appreciated stock. For more information, please contact the United Way. It is
advised before entering into a planned giving contract that an attorney, tax
consultant, and/or financial manager be consulted.
The United Way of the Klamath Basin encourages people to list United Way
as one of their beneficiaries in their will. The bequest or gift in the will
can be unrestricted for United Way to use as deemed appropriate, or the gift
can be restricted to be used as the donor wishes.
United Way also accepts Memorial Gifts in honor and memory of loved ones
who have died. A special memorial card and letter are sent to a surviving
family member acknowledging the gift.
